ACCRA CITY ECO-ADVENTURE TOUR

ACCRA CITY ECO-ADVENTURE TOUR

Spend Your Weekend Immersed in the History & Nature of Accra!

Our Accra City tour is full of adventure and rich in history. We will start this 3 day trip leaving early in the morning on Friday and travelling about 5 hours to the Aburi Botanical Gardens in the Eastern region of Ghana.

Aburi National Gardens was founded in 1890 on the site of an old sanitarium used by gold coast government officials. These gardens played a role in Ghana’s cocoa production by supplying growing information and seedlings to cocoa farmers. The goals of this Botanical Garden include saving plant diversity through research, plant manipulation, horticultural training and research in medicinal plants.

Our next stop will be to Akwamufie where we pair up with The Trident, an adventure-tourism company that will facilitate this portion of the trip. The Trident will assist and provide all safety gear and explain the repelling process to you.  We will take a boat down the River Volta (which drains south into the Gulf of Guinea) to the 100-ft Vulcan rock. The team will guide you to abseil this Vulcan rock. A great spirit of adventure is required for this abseil. You will do some kayaking on the lake afterwards.

After returning to Trident’s home base, The Trident team will guide volunteers to kayak out on the River Volta. The Kayaking adventure begins with an introductory class on paddling techniques and water safety protocols. Then the trip starts across the 600m expanse of River Volta through a channel between the Trident Island and a break-away Island to your right. The return to open water involves a capsize drill that is mandatory and assures safety in an emergency on the river. We will spend the night close by at Aloys Bay. A cute spot right on the river with a view of the Adomi Bridge

On the next day, we will travel to Accra for our City Landmark Tour!

But first, we will stop at Shai Hills Resource Reserve* -
The Shai Hills Resource Reserve
was declared a forest reserve in 1962 with an area of 47 square kilometres and was later extended to 51 square kilometres in 1973. A mosaic of forest covers the five separate hills in the reserve while grassland and low dry forest are found in intervening canyons. The remains of the Shai people (the indigenous people) works can still be found at the reserve. Baboons, Green Monkeys, Antelopes, Zebras, Reptiles and over 172 bird species have been identified in the reserve. Some of the activities are visiting the Museum of National Culture, a nature walk or drive-through safari, bird watching, exploring the cave and game viewing.

Now in Accra, the Historical Landmark Tour begins!

Independence Square* -

Independence Square, also known as the Black Star Square was completed in 1961 commissioned by Kwame Nkrumah. Kwame Nkrumah led Ghana to gain its independence from Britain. Independence Square consists of three monuments. The Independence Arch, The liberation day Monument and the Black star Gate. A statue of a soldier faces the independence arch to symbolize the Ghanaians who lost their lives in the fight for independence. The site is now a tourist destination and is the home to many major national gatherings and parades

The Kwame Nkrumah Museum*-

The Kwame Nkrumah Museum tells the life story of Ghana’s first president Nhrumah through pictures and personal effects, even housing his body in the mausoleum. The mausoleum represents an up-side down sword which in Akan culture is a symbol of peace. With a black star at its apex to symbolize unity, the mausoleum is covered lad top to bottom with Italian marble. As a symbol of life the mausoleum is surrounded by water and fountains. The museum grounds boast beautiful lawns and a bronze statue of Nkrumah

Labadi Beach*-

Labadi Beach popularly known as La Pleasure Beach is the busiest beach on Ghana’s coast and it is maintained by the local hotels. It is located in a town called Labadi in the Greater Accra region of Ghana. The beach offers a great view of the Gulf of Guinea and you can enjoy the breeze of the Atlantic Ocean.
